Located on virgin ground that once was part of the original Bailey Ranch, the private 8.5 view acres face broad Bracken Fern meadows interspersed with a myriad of wildflowers. The Upper Meadow Lodge is perched on the edge of an old forest of mixed oaks, cedars and fir trees. Steps away from the lodge you will discover a mystical cedar circle, believed by some Native Americans to be a sacred place. At the head of the circle is a cedar tree 17 feet around that is believed to be one of, if not the oldest, cedars on the mountain. For well over a century the Bailey family, who are some of the original settlers of the mountain, grazed their cattle on this magnificent fern meadow. From the late 1800’s the meadow was covered with an apple orchard that produced local apples grown here. A few of the historic apple trees from the original orchard still bear fruit at the edge of the meadow. Springtime and summer are alive throughout the property and atop Palomar Mountain with the vibrant colors of local wildflowers, plants and foliage. Warm fall colors are abundant on Palomar Mountain during our fall season, and the air is crisp and cool for hikes and bike rides. Many feel the snow shrouded forest and lodge is the most beautiful. Come and experience all four seasons and decide for yourself.
